English writer-realist Charles Dickens in his novel “Oliver Twist” opened the problem of peoples` poverty. It is one of hardest themes what I have red before. This book made me to think about things that I rarely think at all. Writer had shown us the fate of English people who lived by the way of theft and lie. He expressed it trough the little boys` history.
The main hero of the novel Oliver Twist was born in workhouse what means his poorness and homelessness. The indoor which was intended for people to have a food and work place was more like a prison. Oliver didn`t get enough food for his growing body. As other children, Oliver tried to survive. Their life was sealed. Only miracle could save them.
Every effort of protest was severely punished by mentors. Our main obstinate hero was on the way to be hanged because of asking cereal supplement. After that, he was exposed to loneliness in prison, where he was constantly flogged.
In the second part of the novel, boy ran from his proprietor to London where he met the burglars` band. The burglars tried to manipulate Oliver, but he showed his character and didn`t accept to have a deal with stealing. I like him for his behavior and power of will. Not everyone can behave so reasonably, as it done a little boy. But one of burglars, the prostitute Nancy, stood on his side and saved her warm soul…
This is a fascinating work and I will continue to read it! I already want to know what happens next. See you soon!
